Krider Racing Beer Pong Tournament

December 31, 2009

Krider Racing will be hosting a beer pong tourney Saturday night at the ChumpCar World Series race at Infineon Raceway on January 9, 2010. For the event, the boys of Krider Racing rented one of the Infineon garages, which over the years has housed such storied cars as the Le Mans winning Audi RT10 and Danika Patrick’s Indy car team. What is Krider Racing going to do with such hallowed ground? “Park a piece of shit $500 car in it and play some beer pong,” says Speed Sport Life contributor Rob Krider.

The ChumpCar event at Infineon kicks off the 2010 crap-can racing season with the 24 Hours of LeMons following just a few weeks behind at Firebird International Raceway in Arizona, on January 23-24, 2010.

The beer pong tournament will utilize the World Series of Beer Pong rules and winners will be rewarded with swag from Figstone Graphics and a hangover.

Speed Sport Life Christmas

December 31, 2009

Christmas was just a few days ago and for some reason Santa missed the Krider Racing headquarters (rumor has it, their on the naughty list). However, most Speed Sport Life readers consider the real Santa Claus to come in the form of the FedEx man. And that was just who showed up in the nick of time with a box full of racing goodies for our preparations for the upcoming ChumpCar World Series race at Infineon January 9-10, 2010.

We scored a cool fabricated safety cage for our nitrogen tank to run our air tools from Capital City Motorsports, a pair of FIA rated Piloti driving shoes (great for heel toe downshifts), some Carbotech brake pads (for going super deep into the corners), some “FUEL” stickers for our pit crew to go on expired helmets (per ChumpCar rules) from Figstone Graphics and last, but not least, new nomex socks from I/O Port Racing Supplies.

So, what did you get under the “racing” tree this year?

Racer Boy: Pinewood Derby – Your first taste of Victory or Defeat

December 28, 2009

Most of us gearheads experienced our first competitive car race in the Pinewood Derby. A seven inch long piece of wood, four nails, four plastic wheels and a sloped track –that’s it. Gravity is the only motor in this race. At first glance it seems like there isn’t much to the Pinewood Derby. However, after getting your ass kicked your first year you realize that a Pinewood Derby car can be as complicated as any real racecar. Aerodynamics, rolling friction, center of mass, weight, alignment, lane choice, there are all sorts of things that can make the car roll down the track or get stuck halfway down the hill. Of course, as a seven year old kid you have no idea how to change the center mass of a Pinewood Derby car, that’s where dad comes along.

To learn the tricks of the trade on winning a Boy Scouts of America Pinewood Derby check out the Racer Boy column at Speed Sport Life.

What is Behind Door Number Thirty-Eight?

December 27, 2009

Most Speed Sport Life readers consider themselves car aficionados. Sure, you can tell the difference between a 1970 and 1971 Chevelle from a mile away (count the headlights, folks). But can you tell what type of car the Krider Racing / Speed Sport Life ChumpCar World Series entry is just from this shot of the driver’s door?

The door stickers were the hard work of Dan at Figstone Graphics who will do both doors and roof of a racecar for an easy $60. Not too shabby. This beats the ole cut your own number with scissors on shelf paper from Home Depot trick (which is one of those tricks that always looks like hell).

The first ChumpCar World Series race of 2010 is coming up, January 9-10, 2010, at Infineon Raceway. Speed Sport Life will be doing live coverage and updates from the California event.

So, take your best shot at guessing the make and model of the car. Here’s a hint, it’s not a Chevelle.

ChumpCar World Series

December 1, 2009

Most of us car guys don’t have the enormous budget it takes to run a serious race team. Heck, I don’t have enough cash to fuel the towing rig Penske uses. However, most of us do have enough spare change lying around to run an un-serious race team. Que up the ChumpCar World Series. At ChumpCar you can race on the same racetrack (Infineon Raceway) as Jimmie Johnson and Danica Patrick (No, trust me, she won’t be there in a Cobra or a bikini). All you need to do is get together with a few of your Car Domain friends, piece together a $500 beater and head to the track. This is claimer road racing at its finest.

The next event is January 9-10, 2010, at Infineon Raceway, with a full schedule for the entire year all over the country. The deadline for signing up for the upcoming race has already passed, but everyone knows that deadlines are meant to be broken (the promoters will squeeze you in). To see the full schedule, prices and rules check out their website: ChumpCar World Series.
