Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational

November 27, 2009

Sure, we all love to see those badass show cars with the huge tires and the 500 plus horsepower engines. But do any of them actually run worth a damn? The Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational puts the rubber to the road and finds out which cars are for show and which cars are for GO!

Matt Farah and the boys at The Smoking Tire headed out to Spring Mountain Motorsports Park in Pahrump, Nevada, and captured some great, and not so great moments at the Optima Batteries event.

Racer Boy – Demolition Derby

November 25, 2009

So you want to get into motorsports, but the only thing in your driveway is grandma’s 1976 Buick stationwagon. You’re in luck. Knock the windows out of that bitch (the stationwagon, not your grandma) and head to the demolition derby.

Not only will you get the opportunity to cut off the exhaust system and enjoy the kick ass melody of an uncapped V-8, but you’ll get the chance for motorsports victory in front of a fairground stadium filled with drunk, derby fans. That’s right, you’ll be vying for glory in front of a paying and cheering crowd, try to find that at an autocross.

Demolition Derby is something YOU can do (and by destroying the car you’ll be saving the environment by ridding the world of another gas guzzling monster). To learn where, cost, car preparation, adrenaline factor and how to actually win a Demo Derby read the rest at Speed Sport Life.

Forum Wars: “Talk Smack, Then Hit the Track”

November 15, 2009

We have all probably spent way too much time (at work) surfing different car forums. Some of us have even gotten into knock down drag out fights on the Internet with some Bozo about the power capabilities of the Nissan SR20DE engine. The fact of the matter is, people love to talk trash on car forums. Speed TV has a new show coming out, The Forum Wars presented by Royal Purple, which pits different cars/forums against each other for a drag race and road course shoot out. Internet excuses are over. Put up or shut up. The show will air in early 2010.

I’ve Got “The Man” in My Hand

November 3, 2009

At a recent car show, I stumbled upon a vendor table that was pimping its wares and to my delight they weren’t trying to sell me yet another florescent colored towel to dry my car. These guys were selling cool computer mice that were shaped like all of our favorite cars: Z06 Vettes, Mustang GTs, and the one I had to have, a California Highway Patrol Chevrolet Camaro. The little cars have headlights that come on when you press the mouse buttons and the scrolling wheel burns red when the mouse is moved around. These babies are a must have item for all car guys who spend way too much time surfing Ebay for parts and not enough time in the garage actually fixing cars. You can check to see if they have your favorite ride at Road Mice.
